Ather Energy has made a bold entry into India's most competitive two-wheeler segment — the family scooter — with the Rizta Z, priced at ₹1,09,999 (ex-showroom). The launch represents Ather's most ambitious bet yet: taking on the Honda Activa, which sells 3.5 lakh units a month and has been India's best-selling two-wheeler for two decades.
Key Specifications
- Boot space: 34 litres — large enough for a helmet and groceries
- Seat height: 330 mm for easy accessibility
- Battery: 3.7 kWh with 123 km IDC range (80 km real-world)
- Atlas touchscreen with Google Maps and OTA updates
- IPX67 waterproofing — fully monsoon-ready
Ather's Distribution Gambit
To reach the mass-market buyer, Ather is simultaneously launching 500 new dealerships in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities. CEO Tarun Mehta revealed that the company will have 1,000+ experience centers in India by December 2026. Hero MotoCorp's 40% stake in Ather gives access to Hero's 6,000+ dealer network for service.
Market Opportunity
India sells approximately 2.2 crore two-wheelers annually. Electric penetration in scooters is at 8.4% currently. Ather targets 15% EV share by FY28 — around 13 lakh units. The Rizta Z is the fulcrum of that strategy against traditional ICE scooters.
